Candidate hook
This is a senior design role for someone who wants to stay close to the creative work while taking genuine ownership of projects from pitch through delivery.
You will shape the design vision, work directly with clients and professional teams, and remain involved as concepts are developed into practical, buildable solutions.
The opportunity
You will join a fast-paced Design & Build environment where senior designers are expected to operate with a high degree of independence and contribute quickly to live projects.
The role combines creative design, client engagement, project leadership and practical delivery. You will need to balance strong design thinking with cost, programme, compliance and buildability.
The role
You will lead creative design across multiple projects, from pitch and concept development through design coordination, construction and practical completion.
Typical responsibilities will include:
- defining and presenting design concepts and strategy to clients;
- leading creative development throughout the project lifecycle;
- working closely with Technical Design, Pre-Construction, Commercial, Project Management and Construction teams;
- developing concepts into detailed, buildable solutions without losing the original design intent;
- reviewing drawings, specifications and design documentation;
- resolving design challenges relating to finishes, structure, systems, compliance and constructability;
- supporting site teams with design information, revisions and clarifications;
- managing design changes and responding to RFIs;
- contributing to project reviews covering quality, cost, programme, sustainability and compliance;
- mentoring and supporting other designers;
- managing competing project priorities and deadlines.
You will also contribute to pitch activity and project-winning work, helping develop design strategies that are both creatively strong and commercially realistic.
Required experience
You will need:
- proven Design & Build experience within interior design or interior architecture;
- strong working knowledge of Revit;
- experience taking projects from concept through to construction delivery;
- confidence presenting to and working directly with clients;
- strong creative design capability supported by a relevant portfolio;
- good construction and technical understanding;
- experience coordinating with multidisciplinary project teams;
- the ability to work independently in a fast-moving project environment.
Commercial workplace or office-interiors experience is highly relevant and likely to be the strongest fit.
Desirable experience
Experience in any of the following would be useful:
- AutoCAD and BIM coordination tools;
- Autodesk Construction Cloud or another Common Data Environment;
- CDM, Building Regulations and Building Safety Act requirements;
- BREEAM, WELL or LEED projects;
