Senior Technical Designer
Guildford
An established workplace design-and-build business is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Designer to take a leading role in the technical delivery of commercial interior projects.
This is a senior, hands-on position for someone capable of working independently and taking ownership of projects without requiring close supervision. You will translate creative concepts into coordinated, compliant and buildable technical solutions while protecting design intent, cost and programme.
The role
Working closely with the Technical Design Manager and wider project team, you will lead technical design activity from design development through construction and practical completion.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Producing and overseeing detailed technical drawings and construction packages
- Developing buildable solutions from concepts, sketches and design information
- Coordinating architectural, structural and building-services information
- Leading technical reviews and resolving design and construction challenges
- Using Revit to produce and coordinate accurate project information
- Identifying technical, compliance and buildability risks at an early stage
- Supporting site teams with RFIs, clarifications, revisions and change control
- Reviewing shop drawings and ensuring documentation remains coordinated
- Maintaining high standards across drawings, specifications and completion information
- Supporting and mentoring other members of the design team
- Communicating with clients, consultants, suppliers, contractors and internal project teams
About you
You will need:
- Substantial technical-design and project-delivery experience
- Experience gained within a commercial design-and-build environment
- Strong, current and hands-on Revit capability
- A detailed understanding of construction documentation and technical detailing
- Experience coordinating architecture, structure and building services
- The ability to lead the technical delivery of fast-moving projects
- Good working knowledge of UK Building Regulations and CDM requirements
- Experience supporting projects during construction
- Strong problem-solving, communication and organisational skills
- The judgement and confidence to work independently and take ownership of decisions
Experience with AutoCAD, BIM coordination tools, common data environments and workplace or commercial interior projects would be advantageous. Knowledge of sustainability standards such as BREEAM, WELL or LEED would also be useful.
The opportunity
This is an influential position with considerable project ownership and the opportunity to act as a trusted senior member of the technical design team. It would suit someone who enjoys combining hands-on technical work with coordination, problem-solving and support for less experienced colleagues.
Salary is dependent on experience, with additional project-based profit incentives.
Applicants must be able to work regularly from the Guildford office.
